Reservation Richardson TX Neighborhood Guide & Local History
Reservation is an established west Richardson neighborhood in ZIP code 75080, known for mature trees, mid-century ranch homes and winding residential streets with names such as Cherokee, Seminole, Comanche and Chippewa. Much of the neighborhood developed during the 1960s as Richardson’s postwar growth pushed westward and former open land gave way to new subdivisions and schools.
Explore Reservation homes for sale, recent sales and current market information below, along with the story behind this distinctive Richardson neighborhood and its unusual name.
Before Reservation Was Reservation
Before Reservation became one of west Richardson’s established neighborhoods, this part of the city was still being transformed by the enormous suburban expansion that followed World War II. Richardson’s population and residential footprint grew rapidly during the 1950s and 1960s as new subdivisions replaced the agricultural landscape that had surrounded the older railroad town.
The homes now associated with Reservation began appearing during that growth period. Public property records show many houses dating to the mid-1960s, including homes built in 1966, while legal descriptions identify portions of the neighborhood as sections of the larger Richardson Heights development.
The neighborhood developed a particularly recognizable identity through its street names. Cherokee Drive, Seminole Drive, Comanche Drive, Pawnee Drive, Chippewa Drive and Navaho Trail are among the streets running through the area, and local real estate and community sources associate that naming pattern with the neighborhood’s “Reservation” name.
Today, those 1960s homes sit beneath the mature tree canopy that gives the neighborhood a very different appearance from the newer subdivision it once was.
Did You Know? Many Reservation homes are legally located in Richardson Heights subdivision sections. The neighborhood’s familiar name appears to have developed from streets named Cherokee, Seminole, Comanche, Pawnee, Chippewa and Navaho rather than from a historic reservation located on the land.
